VJs wanted for Burning Man 2007

I am helping gather VJs to mix at the Opulent Temple this year on the playa. If you are interested, read on!

VJs needed - Burning Man - Black Rock Desert - 27th August - 3th September

Hello everyone. We are looking for VJs to take 1-3 hour slots at Burning Man 2007 (if you are interested in a longer set just let us know). We are *ontheflyfilms and have been VJing for the Opulent Temple (www.opulenttemple.org) and Opel Productions (www.opelproductions.com) in San Francisco for many years. The Opulent Temple is on the 2 o'clock corner of Burning Man (check out the map at www.burningman.com - it's one of the two prime spots). Opulent Temple is one of the biggest sound camps on the playa.

Past guests on the decks in their famous flame throwing DJ booth 'the O Pod' include Tiesto, Stanton Warriors, Paul Oakenfold, Lee Coombs, DJ Dan, Hybrid, Sandra Collins, D:Fuse, The Scumfrog, Freq Nasty, Tipper, Josh Gabriel (of Gabriel & Dresden), Bassnectar (Lorin) and others.

Burning Man is a not for profit event, and thus none of us receive payment, but if you are planning to be at Burning Man, and want to jump in and mix a set, please send a demo reel to ot@ontheflyfilms.com (ideally we could visit a website, if you have to send a qt please keep it small), and we'll try to slot you in. I'll say this much, its a hell of a lot of fun.

We mix from sunset to sunrise from tuesday through saturday night. Help us blow it up. we are looking for experienced VJs. we will have at least one V4 mixer, and DVD players to match, we may have some live cameras, and there will be two 14' circular screens.

if you have any specific needs/desires please include them in your email. thanks! hope to see you on the playa! (note: if you want to join the opulent temple camp you can do so at www.opulenttemple.org for a small fee)

short film: APT + Kontrabrand - The Litany

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBsep4Xosk8

this is a short film i made in san francisco with spoken word/performance artist Chris Sia and Eugene Steele. It started out with Chris reading a list of all of these wartorn places in his van at Burning Man last year, and then he asked me to help him make a video, so we dug out a ton of samples and went to town.

our crew is A.P.T. (armageddon prevention team) and Kontrabrand is top secret, but suffice to say, you'll hear about it in the near future if you follow what i do at all.

enjoy!

Crosswired Performance 2 feat. vj culture Todd Thille and musical artists [a]pendics.shuffle w/ Trace Element
when:	Fri 4.27 (8-10pm)
where:	A+D Museum (5900 Wilshire Blvd, 310.494.0357)

He may have destroyed dance floors around the world, but hometown hero Kenneth J Gibson — aka [a]pendics.shuffle — still belongs to LA. One of the most prolific electronic producers and DJs in the area, he throws down funky, twisted, psych-tinged minimal techno tonight in the second installment of the A+D Museum's Crosswired series — a new program showcasing LA's finest electronic music and vidz. Trace Element kicks things off, dropping a combo of Henry Strange's crunchy theremin breaks alongside the emotional violin mastery of Laura Escude. Direct from Istanbul, Todd Thille of VJ collective Artificial Eyes lights up the walls with his stunning live visuals.

some more info here.
http://vjculture.blogspot.com/
These items are sold as a complete package.
Plus, 1000's of plastic slide frames for making your own slides.
On my Flickr site I have a few other things for sale, like 3 16mm film projectors, a m-audio quattro usb interface and 4 par 16 lights.
email me off the list.

hello!

we are an ambient/soundscapes/industrial band looking for someone who can mix video clips on a laptop from a external hard drive that we provide.

i've been preparing video for shows via a dvd. i feel that it is pretty strong now, but would be stronger with a bit of human interaction/jamming.

i threw some clips up on youtube to give you an idea:
http://www.youtube.com/user/mtrucco

so, we'd need to meet for a few practices before a gig. sound like something you are interested in? hope to hear from you!

Hey all, I've been in Torino Italy for the month of Feb. VJing with a band called the Magnetic Poets. We are performing every night in Piazza Solferino.
I have been updating my blog with photos and descriptions of what's been going on.
The project has been very interesting, we are collaborating with musicians from around the world.
We take short video clips of the artists performing in front of a camera and export the audio to abelton live and the video into Arkaos and motion dive. Ableton Live sends a midi note to trigger the video sample in the vj software. It's all quantized and synced up. It's been working flawlessly all month. 8 shows left.
checkout the blog here.

Love Parade fundraiser

yeah, I know, another fundraiser.... well, if anyone enjoyed last year's Love Parade weekend please come out and support this event on either Friday or Saturday.
I'm setting up a couple of projectors for the event. I will be too busy to VJ as I'm leaving the country for a month in a couple of days.
However, if anyone is interested in mixing please reply.
For those outside of San Fransico this is a SF gig.
100% of the proceeds go to Love Parade who needs to raise money for 2006.
Check out the flyer here. http://www.loveparadesf.org/
SOMARTS is a great venue to do visuals at. There will be two projectors and cable already run.
There is more room in other areas if someone is ambitious.
Either way it's going to be a great event.
If you would like to participate please respond so we can get in idea on who would like to mix.
email. trancehead00@hotmail.com

VJ's need for Party Jan. 27th and 28th SF CA

I'm reposting this from John Wood.
This is a not for pay party. Yeah, I know, benefit parties (everyone is doing a benefit) However, if you party here in SF These two organizations are fighting for your rights to party and Love Parade, well it's just a great event to have in San Francisco.
SOMARTS is a great place to do visuals and there are lots of places to project. contact john@sflnc.com
I would love to be there but I'm going to be in Italy for the Olympics
The SFLNC is helping to organize two benefit parties, with the proceeds split equally between two non-profit organizations: Loveparade (www.loveparadesf.org) and the SomArts Cultural Center. (www.somarts.org) The high costs of coming down Market St. to Civic Center left Loveparade will some bills to pay before we can focus on the 2006 Loveparade San Francisco. SomArts just completed a five year project of getting the building upgraded to an occupancy of 1000 and fully permitted for all night entertainment. Benefit funds will help pay off the construction loans.

The Friday Jan 27th party will be produced by Skills and many other youth oriented DJ collectives. The Saturday night party will be produced by Opel Productions, Get Yer freak On, Tantra and other Burning Man oriented groups. Projectors and decorations could be used for both as each party will cater to different crowds.

We have three sound systems donated and are now looking for people who may want to donate video, visuals, art, decoration or performance for the event. This should be a fun and successful weekend, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

I'm handling the VJ bookings for a couple of the larger camps at the burn this year - one of them has the whole kit and kaboodle ready and waiting for you (screens, projectors, simple mixer, dvd players), the other has the screens but needs some gear.

We're also looking for content as I need about 50-60 hours of material for this project!

Please contact me by private message if interested.

BTW - one camp has 2 screens that are 15 x 12 feet and the other has a similair setup with slightly smaller screens!

I am screening films to be shown at our local Denver Guerrilla Drive-in. I am looking for suggestions and submissions if you like. The last film we showed was Casshern and it went incredibly well. Anyone out there have any films in mind that would be fun to show?
P.S. ---> We are looking for films that are not easily accessed through main stream means. Our objective is to expose the audience to things they would not normally get a chance to see let alone even hear about.

Google's new video search engine and player

Google introduced today it's new video search engine. It allows the user to search for videos that have been uploaded to it's server. checkout http://video.google.com/
For the past 4 months users have been able to upload video in mp4 format to Google's server. Now you can view the movies using Google's own video player that is embedded in the browser. You will need to download the player first.
As a content creator you have the choice of setting a fee for people to view your videos or it can be free. Google will take a small percentage of the fee. Not sure what that is yet.
This will be a great tool for showcasing demo reels and projects with clients.

I did a basic search for the term "VJ" at 9:30AM PST. There were only 36 movies that came back. Only 5 or 6 on them were actually a VJ mix or demo.
Since the VJ community is one of the first to embrace new technology like this I'm sure within a month we will see significant growth in VJ demo reels.
I checked out a couple of videos this morning. They all loaded within a couple of seconds. Quality varied due to the original content. I have uploaded two videos. One is the Tech TV coverage of Video Salon and Video Riot. (Do I have the rights to show this? It's questionable, however, most of the footage they are using I gave them). The other video is a music video I did for Ben Sheppee's Hidden Partition DVD. (Audio is by Park Ranger). Now I'll wait and see how long it takes to be displayed on the Google site. They should be searchable under VJ Culture and or video salon.

Sat. Feb 12th my partner in crime VideoJon and I are creating an installation for Aranji @ Club Mighty here in SF.
The Aranji folks are a treat to work with. They put the visual stimuli equal to the audio talents.
Our theme is, "Inside the Brain"
We are creating multiple layers of images, neurons and cell structures on scrim using video and slide.
On stage we will unveil a new brain transplant installation. If you can't make it to the show I will have pictures after the weekend to my blog
